The Smooth Transitions estate sales and auctions service page

The estate-sales page · built for the local query

01

Context

Referrals filled the calendar. Search did not.

Smooth Transitions of Fredericksburg helps seniors and their families through the hardest week of a move: downsizing a lifetime of belongings, coordinating the move itself, running estate sales and auctions, and clearing out the property afterward. The work is intensely local and referral-driven — families find them through senior communities, realtors, and word of mouth.

The reputation was real. The search presence was not. Families searching for exactly these services — often in a stressful week where a parent’s house has to be emptied and sold — were not finding them.

02

Problem

Invisible for the searches that pay the bills.

In the autumn 2025 measurement window, the site averaged position 38 across the queries it appeared for — page four. The estate-sales service, a core revenue line, had no page earning search traffic at all: “estate sales fredericksburg va” hovered around position 23, and nothing on the site was built to win it.

The traffic that did arrive came overwhelmingly from people who already knew the name. Brand searches performed fine. Everything upstream of the brand was dark.

03

Approach

One page per service, built for the local query.

No tricks — structure and copy. Each revenue line got its own page targeting the exact phrases Fredericksburg families actually search, and we kept publishing against that map.

Specific actions

04 TACTICS

T·01

Built a dedicated Estate Sales & Auctions page — the service had no search-facing home before it.

T·02

Mapped every service to its local query set — estate sales, senior downsizing, hoarding cleanup — and rewrote on-page targeting to match how Fredericksburg families actually phrase the search.

T·03

Kept publishing against the query map through the Voyager content system — steady, local, specific.

T·04

Measured everything continuously — rankings through Search Console, leads through Voyager Orbit — so every claim on this page is checkable.

04

Result

Clicks nearly doubled. The new page became the biggest search asset on the site.

Comparing two equal 92-day windows nine months apart: organic clicks grew 88%, impressions grew 80%, and the average position across every query the site appears for improved from 38 to 23.

The new estate-sales page — which earned no measurable search traffic in the first window — pulled 53 clicks and 2,526 impressions in the recent quarter, with its money query at position 8, up from 23 the quarter before. “Senior downsizing services” climbed from the mid-50s to 17. Brand searches hold position 1 with a 54% click-through rate.
